The Dead Sea, by name alone, doesn't seem to be a place where you would want to spend any leisure time. Located near Amman, Jordan, the surface of the Dead Sea is over 1,300 feet below sea level. The very bottom of the sea, is over 2,300 feet below sea level, making it the lowest body of water on earth and the lowest point on earth. It is also the world's richest source of natural salts
The salts found in the Dead Sea are mineral salts, just like you find in the oceans of the world, only in extreme concentrations. The water in the Dead Sea is deadly to most living things. Fish accidentally swimming into the waters from one of the several freshwater streams that feed the Sea are killed instantly, their bodies quickly coated with a preserving layer of salt crystals.
For a sea that doesn't support life, it provides the opposite for humans. The high content of salts and minerals gives its waters the renowned curative powers, therapeutic qualities, and its buoyancy. The Dead Sea is the only place in the world that combines year-round hot weather, an enriched oxygen atmosphere, therapeutic UVB solar radiation, a mineral-rich salt sea, mineral-rich mud and thermo-mineral hot springs and spas.
Research has shown that the combined climatic factors have a long lasting therapeutic effect on skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema and rheumatic or degenerative joint diseases.
